Scientific Programme

Gravel Bed Rivers 10 will feature a rich and diverse scientific programme, centred on the theme “From Grain to Globe”, reflecting the multi-scalar nature of processes that shape gravel-bed rivers. The programme will combine invited keynote presentations, themed oral sessions, interactive poster displays, and field-based dialogue.

Thematic Sessions

Our themes cover the current frontiers of gravel-bed river science and management, and include:

  • Sediment Transport

  • River Hydraulics

  • Climate Change Impacts

  • Numerical Modelling and Predictive Tools

  • Biogeomorphology

  • Post-Glacial and Bedrock-Controlled Systems

  • Morphodynamics of Braided and Mountain Streams

  • River Restoration and Rewilding

  • Remote Sensing and Monitoring

  • Art, Culture and River Systems

  • New and Emerging Technologies

Poster Sessions

All participants are invited to contribute to the conference through our dedicated poster sessions, which provide an inclusive platform for showcasing research, case studies, conceptual advances, and methodological innovations. Posters will be displayed in prominent, well-attended sessions designed to encourage detailed engagement and networking.

Field Visits

Field excursions are a cornerstone of the GBR conference tradition. GBR10 will include both pre-conference and mid-week field trips to nearby gravel-bed river systems in the Scottish Highlands. These excursions will explore a range of river types and management contexts, offering opportunities for discussion grounded in landscape and process.

A Platform for Dialogue

GBR10 is designed to facilitate open, interdisciplinary exchange. Sessions will emphasise discussion, constructive critique, and collaboration. There will also be sufficient time for informal conversations. We especially welcome contributions from early-career researchers, practitioners, and underrepresented groups, and are committed to ensuring a supportive and inclusive scientific environment.

A detailed programme and call for abstracts will be released in due course.
