Aviemore, Scottish Highlands

Gravel-Bed Rivers 10 will be held in Aviemore, a vibrant town nestled in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland’s largest protected landscape and one of the UK’s most iconic mountain regions.

Aviemore offers a spectacular natural setting for a conference focused on dynamic river systems. Surrounded by glaciated valleys, active gravel-bed rivers, and post-glacial landforms, it provides immediate access to field sites that exemplify many of the processes and challenges discussed at GBR10—from sediment transport and morphodynamics to restoration and rewilding.

The town is well equipped for visitors, with a range of accommodation, dining, and outdoor recreation options. Its central location within the Highlands makes it an ideal base for field excursions and for exploring Scotland’s diverse fluvial landscapes.
