Conference Information

C‍onference Programme | Poster Abstract Book

There will be welcome drinks from 6 pm on Sunday 6th September.

Registration: Is open from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday 6th September, and then from 8 am on Monday 7th September. It will be in the entrance to the Osprey Arena in the main resort building (number 13 on the map below).

Posters: A fantastic range of abstracts have been submitted. Please prepare your poster to be portrait A0. We will provide materials for hanging them.

Poster Pop-ups: On Monday afternoon we have a poster pop-up session for all early career researchers (defined as those on a subsidised registration). You will have one minute to talk about your poster without any slides or images. The time limit will be strictly enforced! There will also be prizes for the best early career posters.

Sharing posters: Posters are not to be shared without the authors permission. We will provide stickers to indicate whether or not posters can be copied and shared.

Discussions: Following GBR tradition, we plan to produce a short discussion paper for each session to capture the ideas raised in the Q&A. We will be collecting written comments during and after the conference on an online form. Everyone is very welcome to submit a comment on the session, even if they didn't speak during the Q&A. We strongly encourage all discussants to submit a written comment for their session. Once we have compiled the comments then we will invite a response from the speakers. 

Speakers: We plan to record all talks and share them on YouTube afterwards. Please let us know if you do not give permission for us to share your talk.

Talk lengths: Each session consists of two 25 min talks and 10 min from the discussant, followed by 30 min of Q&A.

Art and photo exhibition: We plan to create an art and photo exhibition on the theme of gravel bed rivers, and are looking for contributions. If you would like to display a photo, please send it to our email address (gravelbedrivers10@gmail.com) by Friday 21st August and we will print it out for the display. If you would like to display some art (in a wide interpretation – including drawings, paintings, textiles, poems, sculpture), then please let us know what you will bring. If it is easier to send us a digital version for us to print, then please email it to us by the same deadline.

Conference dinner: On the Thursday evening we have a Scottish conference dinner and ceilidh. (A ceilidh is a Scottish dance, and full instructions will be provided on the night! Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for dancing.) If any family or friends would like to join us, they can now sign up for a separate ticket for the dinner and ceilidh.

Conference timings: The meeting will start at 9 am on Monday 7th September, and will finish by 4 pm on Friday 11th September.

Pre-conference fieldtrip: Thanks to everyone that has signed up for this. Further information will follow from Mikael Attal.

Speaker paper drafts: A reminder to speakers that paper drafts were due on Friday 24th July. Please send any remaining ones asap so that we can circulate them to the relevant discussant ahead of the meeting.

Fieldtrips: Weather in Scotland in September can be changeable, so please come prepared for sun/wind/rain/cold!

Cairngorms wildfire: You may have seen news report about the recent wildfire in the Cairngorms (e.g. https://cairngorms.co.uk/search?content-finder=%28sort%3Abest%2Ctypes%3A%28news%2Cviews%29%2Cpage%3A1%2Cmeeting-status%3A%28upcoming%29%2Cshow-news%3Atrue%29). It has clearly had a large impact, but it will not affect the conference or fieldtrips.

GBR11: If you are interested in potentially hosting the next GBR meeting (to be held ~2030), then please contact us at gravelbedrivers10@gmail.com to discuss making a short pitch for your proposed meeting (inc. location, theme, organising team) at the conference. If there are multiple pitches, then we will organise a vote at the meeting.
